This week in ACT: Diversity and Inclusion in Environmental Education Dialogue

 

 

 

This past Monday, ACT members hosted a discussion about the intersecting aspects of race, gender, class, and ability within environmental education (EE). The discussion provided a platform and context for students from Pitzer College to discuss personal experiences in being privileged in and/or excluded from the field of EE. These are a few of the questions discussed at Monday's event: 

In what ways are groups/individuals excluded from environmental movements? How have you been affected by this? In what ways have you contributed to this? What role can education play in destabilizing this white, upper class, cisgender-woman-dominated, able-bodied culture?

We hope that Monday's dialogue will be the first of many ACT-hosted events like this. Stay tuned for more to come!
